2020-07-24habanalabs: halt device CPU only upon certain resetOded Gabbay
Currently the driver halts the device CPU in the halt engines function, which halts all the engines of the ASIC. The problem is that if later on we stop the reset process (due to inability to clean memory mappings in time), the CPU will remain in halt mode. This creates many issues, such as thermal/power control and FLR handling. Therefore, move the halting of the device CPU to the very end of the reset process, just before writing to the registers to initiate the reset. In addition, the driver now needs to send a message to the device F/W to disable it from sending interrupts to the host machine because during halt engines function the driver disables the MSI/MSI-X interrupts. 2020-05-25habanalabs: don't allow hard reset with open processesOmer Shpigelman
When the MMU is heavily used by the engines, unmapping might take a lot of time due to a full MMU cache invalidation done as part of the unmap flow. Hence we might not be able to kill all open processes before going to hard reset the device, as it involves unmapping of all user memory. In case of a failure in killing all open processes, we should stop the hard reset flow as it might lead to a kernel crash - one thread (killing of a process) is updating MMU structures that other thread (hard reset) is freeing. Stopping a hard reset flow leaves the device as nonoperational and the user can then initiate a hard reset via sysfs to reinitialize the device. 2020-05-19habanalabs: support clock gating enable/disableOded Gabbay
In Gaudi there is a feature of clock gating certain engines. Therefore, add this property to the device structure. In addition, due to a limitation of this feature, the driver needs to dynamically enable or disable this feature during run-time. Therefore, add ASIC interface functions to enable/disable this function from the common code. Moreover, this feature must be turned off when the user wishes to debug the ASIC by reading/writing registers and/or memory through the driver's debugfs. We want to remove the following restrictions/assumptions in our driver: 1. The H/W queue index is also the completion queue index. 2. The H/W queue index is also the IRQ number of the completion queue. 3. All queues of the same type have consecutive indexes. Therefore we add the support for H/W queues of the same type with nonconsecutive indexes and completion queue index and IRQ number different than the H/W queue index. 2019-11-21habanalabs: flush EQ workers in hard resetOded Gabbay
During hard-reset, there can be multiple events received from the H/W. For each event, the driver opens a worker thread to handle it. For some of the events, the driver will read/write registers in the code that handles the event. In case of hard-reset, we must prevent reads/writes to the registers during the reset operation because the device might get stuck if that happens. Therefore, flush the EQ workers before resetting the device (in hard-reset only). Additional events won't arrive as we synced and disabled the interrupts. 2019-09-05habanalabs: create two char devices per ASICOded Gabbay
This patch changes the driver to create two char devices for each ASIC it discovers. This is done to allow system/monitoring applications to query the device for stats, information, idle state and more, while also allowing the deep-learning application to send work to the ASIC. One char device is the original device, hlX. IOCTL calls through this device file can perform any task on the device (compute, memory, queries). The open function for this device will fail if it was called before but the file-descriptor it created was not completely released yet (the release callback function is not called from the kernel until all instances of that FD are closed). The driver needs to keep this behavior to support backward compatibility with existing userspace, which count that the open will fail if the device is "occupied". The second char device is called "hl_controlDx", where x is the same index of the main device with a minor number of the original char device + 1. Applications that open this device can only call the INFO IOCTL. There is no limitation on the number of applications opening this device. 2019-09-05habanalabs: maintain a list of file private data objectsOded Gabbay
This patch adds a new list to the driver's device structure. The list will keep the file private data structures that the driver creates when a user process opens the device. This change is needed because it is useless to try to count how many FD are open. Instead, track our own private data structure per open file and once it is released, remove it from the list. As long as the list is not empty, it means we have a user that can do something with our device. This patch renames the "user_ctx" field in the device structure to "compute_ctx". This better reflects the meaning of this context. In addition, we also check in the ctx_fini() that the debug mode should be disabled only if the context being destroyed is the compute context. This has no effect right now as we only have a single process and a single context, but this makes the code more ready for multiple process support. 2019-05-29habanalabs: de-couple MMU and VM module initializationOded Gabbay
This patch initializes the MMU S/W structures before the VM S/W structures, instead of doing that as part of the VM S/W initialization. This is done because we need to configure some MMU mappings for the kernel context, before the VM is initialized. The VM initialization can't be moved earlier because it depends on the size of the DRAM, which is retrieved from the device CPU. 2019-04-30habanalabs: increase timeout if working with simulatorDalit Ben Zoor
Where there is a spike in the CPU consumption, it may cause random failures in the C/I since the KMD timeout for CPU and/or QMAN0 jobs expires and it stops communicating to the simulator. pr_fmt() should be defined before including linux/printk.h, either directly or indirectly, in order to avoid redefinition of the macro. Currently the macro definition is in habanalabs.h, which is included in many files, and that makes the addition/reorder of includes to be prone to compilation errors. 2019-04-06habanalabs: improve IOCTLs behavior when disabled or resetOded Gabbay
This patch makes some improvement in how IOCTLs behave when the device is disabled or under reset. The new code checks, at the start of every IOCTL, if the device is disabled or in reset. If so, it prints an appropriate kernel message and returns -EBUSY to user-space. In addition, the code modifies the location of where the hard_reset_pending flag is being set or cleared: 1. It is now cleared immediately after the reset *tear-down* flow is finished but before the re-initialization flow begins. 2. It is being set in the remove function of the device, to make the behavior the same with the hard-reset flow There are two exceptions to the disable or in reset check: 1. The HL_INFO_DEVICE_STATUS opcode in the INFO IOCTL. This opcode allows the user to inquire about the status of the device, whether it is operational, in reset or malfunction (disabled). If the driver will block this IOCTL, the user won't be able to retrieve the status in case of malfunction or in reset. 2. The WAIT_FOR_CS IOCTL. This IOCTL allows the user to inquire about the status of a CS. We want to allow the user to continue to do so, even if we started a soft-reset process because it will allow the user to get the correct error code for each CS he submitted. 2019-04-06habanalabs: all FD must be closed before removing deviceOded Gabbay
This patch fixes a bug in the implementation of the function that removes the device. The bug can happen when the device is removed but not the driver itself (e.g. remove by the OS due to PCI freeze in Power architecture). In that case, there maybe open users that are calling IOCTLs while the device is removed. This is a possible race condition that the driver must handle. Otherwise, a kernel panic may occur. This race is prevented in the hard-reset flow, because the driver makes sure the users are closed before continuing with the hard-reset. This race can not occur when the driver itself is removed because the OS makes sure all the file descriptors are closed. The fix is to make sure the open users close their file descriptors and if they don't (after a certain amount of time), the driver sends them a SIGKILL, because the remove of the device can't be stopped. 2019-03-03habanalabs: prevent host crash during suspend/resumeOded Gabbay
This patch fixes the implementation of suspend/resume of the device so that upon resume of the device, the host won't crash due to PCI completion timeout. Upon suspend, the device is being reset due to PERST. Therefore, upon resume, the driver must initialize the PCI controller as if the driver was loaded. If the controller is not initialized and the device tries to access the device through the PCI bars, the host will crash with PCI completion timeout error. This patch adds accounting for active CS. Active means that the CS was submitted to the H/W queues and was not completed yet. This is necessary to support suspend operation. 2019-03-13habanalabs: complete user context cleanup before hard resetOmer Shpigelman
This patch fixes a bug which led to a crash during hard reset flow. Before a hard reset is executed, we wait a few seconds for the user context cleanup to complete. If it wasn't completed, we kill the user process and move on to the reset flow. Upon killing the user process, the context cleanup flow begins and may take a while due to MMU unmaps. Meanwhile, in the driver reset flow, we change the PCI DRAM bar location which can interfere with the MMU that uses the bar. If the context cleanup flow didn't finish quickly, a crash may occur due to PCI DRAM bar mislocation during the MMU unmap. 2019-02-28habanalabs: disable CPU access on timeoutsOded Gabbay
This patch provides a workaround for a bug in the F/W where the response time for a request from KMD may take more then 100ms. This could cause the queue between KMD and the F/W to get out of sync. The WA is to: 1. Increase the timeout of ALL requests to 1s. 2. In case a request isn't answered in time, mark the state as "cpu_disabled" and prevent sending further requests from KMD to the F/W. This patch adds debugfs support to the driver. It allows the user-space to display information that is contained in the internal structures of the driver, such as: - active command submissions - active user virtual memory mappings - number of allocated command buffers It also enables the user to perform reads and writes through Goya's PCI bars. 2019-02-18habanalabs: add virtual memory and MMU modulesOmer Shpigelman
This patch adds the Virtual Memory and MMU modules. Goya has an internal MMU which provides process isolation on the internal DDR. The internal MMU also performs translations for transactions that go from Goya to the Host. The driver is responsible for allocating and freeing memory on the DDR upon user request. It also provides an interface to map and unmap DDR and Host memory to the device address space. The MMU in Goya supports 3-level and 4-level page tables. With 3-level, the size of each page is 2MB, while with 4-level the size of each page is 4KB. In the DDR, the physical pages are always 2MB. 2019-02-18habanalabs: add command submission moduleOded Gabbay
This patch adds the main flow for the user to submit work to the device. Each work is described by a command submission object (CS). The CS contains 3 arrays of command buffers: One for execution, and two for context-switch (store and restore). For each CB, the user specifies on which queue to put that CB. In case of an internal queue, the entry doesn't contain a pointer to the CB but the address in the on-chip memory that the CB resides at. The driver parses some of the CBs to enforce security restrictions. The user receives a sequence number that represents the CS object. The user can then query the driver regarding the status of the CS, using that sequence number. In case the CS doesn't finish before the timeout expires, the driver will perform a soft-reset of the device. 2019-02-18habanalabs: add device reset supportOded Gabbay
This patch adds support for doing various on-the-fly reset of Goya. The driver supports two types of resets: 1. soft-reset 2. hard-reset Soft-reset is done when the device detects a timeout of a command submission that was given to the device. The soft-reset process only resets the engines that are relevant for the submission of compute jobs, i.e. the DMA channels, the TPCs and the MME. The purpose is to bring the device as fast as possible to a working state. Hard-reset is done in several cases: 1. After soft-reset is done but the device is not responding 2. When fatal errors occur inside the device, e.g. ECC error 3. When the driver is removed Hard-reset performs a reset of the entire chip except for the PCI controller and the PLLs. It is a much longer process then soft-reset but it helps to recover the device without the need to reboot the Host. After hard-reset, the driver will restore the max power attribute and in case of manual power management, the frequencies that were set. This patch also adds two entries to the sysfs, which allows the root user to initiate a soft or hard reset. 2019-02-18habanalabs: add sysfs and hwmon supportOded Gabbay
This patch add the sysfs and hwmon entries that are exposed by the driver. Goya has several sensors, from various categories such as temperature, voltage, current, etc. The driver exposes those sensors in the standard hwmon mechanism. In addition, the driver exposes a couple of interfaces in sysfs, both for configuration and for providing status of the device or driver.
