2022-02-06net: hsr: use hlist_head instead of list_head for mac addressesJuhee Kang
Currently, HSR manages mac addresses of known HSR nodes by using list_head. It takes a lot of time when there are a lot of registered nodes due to finding specific mac address nodes by using linear search. We can be reducing the time by using hlist. Thus, this patch moves list_head to hlist_head for mac addresses and this allows for further improvement of network performance. 2020-07-27hsr: enhance netlink socket interface to support PRPMurali Karicheri
Parallel Redundancy Protocol (PRP) is another redundancy protocol introduced by IEC 63439 standard. It is similar to HSR in many aspects:- - Use a pair of Ethernet interfaces to created the PRP device - Use a 6 byte redundancy protocol part (RCT, Redundancy Check Trailer) similar to HSR Tag. - Has Link Redundancy Entity (LRE) that works with RCT to implement redundancy. Key difference is that the protocol unit is a trailer instead of a prefix as in HSR. That makes it inter-operable with tradition network components such as bridges/switches which treat it as pad bytes, whereas HSR nodes requires some kind of translators (Called redbox) to talk to regular network devices. This features allows regular linux box to be converted to a DAN-P box. DAN-P stands for Dual Attached Node - PRP similar to DAN-H (Dual Attached Node - HSR). Add a comment at the header/source code to explicitly state that the driver files also handles PRP protocol as well. Signed-off-by: Murali Karicheri <m-karicheri2@ti.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2020-06-22hsr: avoid to create proc file after unregisterTaehee Yoo
When an interface is being deleted, "/proc/net/dev_snmp6/<interface name>" is deleted. The function for this is addrconf_ifdown() in the addrconf_notify() and it is called by notification, which is NETDEV_UNREGISTER. But, if NETDEV_CHANGEMTU is triggered after NETDEV_UNREGISTER, this proc file will be created again. This recreated proc file will be deleted by netdev_wati_allrefs(). Before netdev_wait_allrefs() is called, creating a new HSR interface routine can be executed and It tries to create a proc file but it will find an un-deleted proc file. At this point, it warns about it. To avoid this situation, it can use ->dellink() instead of ->ndo_uninit() to release resources because ->dellink() is called before NETDEV_UNREGISTER. So, a proc file will not be recreated. 2020-03-16hsr: set .netnsok flagTaehee Yoo
The hsr module has been supporting the list and status command. (HSR_C_GET_NODE_LIST and HSR_C_GET_NODE_STATUS) These commands send node information to the user-space via generic netlink. But, in the non-init_net namespace, these commands are not allowed because .netnsok flag is false. So, there is no way to get node information in the non-init_net namespace. hsr_get_node_{list/status}() are not under rtnl_lock() because they are callback functions of generic netlink. But they use __dev_get_by_index() without rtnl_lock(). So, it would use unsafe data. In order to fix it, rcu_read_lock() and dev_get_by_index_rcu() are used instead of __dev_get_by_index(). 2020-02-29hsr: remove unnecessary rcu_read_lock() in hsr moduleTaehee Yoo
In order to access the port list, the hsr_port_get_hsr() is used. And this is protected by RTNL and RCU. The hsr_fill_info(), hsr_check_carrier(), hsr_dev_open() and hsr_get_max_mtu() are protected by RTNL. So, rcu_read_lock() in these functions are not necessary. The hsr_handle_frame() also uses rcu_read_lock() but this function is called by packet path. It's already protected by RCU. So, the rcu_read_lock() in hsr_handle_frame() can be removed. 2019-07-11hsr: switch ->dellink() to ->ndo_uninit()Cong Wang
Switching from ->priv_destructor to dellink() has an unexpected consequence: existing RCU readers, that is, hsr_port_get_hsr() callers, may still be able to read the port list. Instead of checking the return value of each hsr_port_get_hsr(), we can just move it to ->ndo_uninit() which is called after device unregister and synchronize_net(), and we still have RTNL lock there. 2019-03-22genetlink: make policy common to familyJohannes Berg
Since maxattr is common, the policy can't really differ sanely, so make it common as well. The only user that did in fact manage to make a non-common policy is taskstats, which has to be really careful about it (since it's still using a common maxattr!). This is no longer supported, but we can fake it using pre_doit. This reduces the size of e.g. nl80211.o (which has lots of commands): text data bss dec hex filename 398745 14323 2240 415308 6564c net/wireless/nl80211.o (before) 397913 14331 2240 414484 65314 net/wireless/nl80211.o (after) -------------------------------- -832 +8 0 -824 Which is obviously just 8 bytes for each command, and an added 8 bytes for the new policy pointer. I'm not sure why the ops list is counted as .text though. Most of the code transformations were done using the following spatch: @ops@ identifier OPS; expression POLICY; @@ struct genl_ops OPS[] = { ..., { - .policy = POLICY, }, ... }; @@ identifier ops.OPS; expression ops.POLICY; identifier fam; expression M; @@ struct genl_family fam = { .ops = OPS, .maxattr = M, + .policy = POLICY, ... }; This also gets rid of devlink_nl_cmd_region_read_dumpit() accessing the cb->data as ops, which we want to change in a later genl patch. 2016-10-27genetlink: mark families as __ro_after_initJohannes Berg
Now genl_register_family() is the only thing (other than the users themselves, perhaps, but I didn't find any doing that) writing to the family struct. In all families that I found, genl_register_family() is only called from __init functions (some indirectly, in which case I've add __init annotations to clarifly things), so all can actually be marked __ro_after_init. 2016-10-27genetlink: no longer support using static family IDsJohannes Berg
Static family IDs have never really been used, the only use case was the workaround I introduced for those users that assumed their family ID was also their multicast group ID. Additionally, because static family IDs would never be reserved by the generic netlink code, using a relatively low ID would only work for built-in families that can be registered immediately after generic netlink is started, which is basically only the control family (apart from the workaround code, which I also had to add code for so it would reserve those IDs) Thus, anything other than GENL_ID_GENERATE is flawed and luckily not used except in the cases I mentioned. Move those workarounds into a few lines of code, and then get rid of GENL_ID_GENERATE entirely, making it more robust. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes.berg@intel.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2014-07-08net/hsr: Better frame dispatchArvid Brodin
This patch removes the separate paths for frames coming from the outside, and frames sent from the HSR device, and instead makes all frames go through hsr_forward_skb() in hsr_forward.c. This greatly improves code readability and also opens up the possibility for future support of the HSR Interlink device that is the basis for HSR RedBoxes and HSR QuadBoxes, as well as VLAN compatibility. Other improvements: * A reduction in the number of times an skb is copied on machines without HAVE_EFFICIENT_UNALIGNED_ACCESS, which improves throughput somewhat. * Headers are now created using the standard eth_header(), and using the standard hard_header_len. * Each HSR slave now gets its own private skb, so slave-specific fields can be correctly set. 2013-11-19genetlink: make multicast groups const, prevent abuseJohannes Berg
Register generic netlink multicast groups as an array with the family and give them contiguous group IDs. Then instead of passing the global group ID to the various functions that send messages, pass the ID relative to the family - for most families that's just 0 because the only have one group. This avoids the list_head and ID in each group, adding a new field for the mcast group ID offset to the family. At the same time, this allows us to prevent abusing groups again like the quota and dropmon code did, since we can now check that a family only uses a group it owns. 2013-11-19genetlink: pass family to functions using groupsJohannes Berg
This doesn't really change anything, but prepares for the next patch that will change the APIs to pass the group ID within the family, rather than the global group ID. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes.berg@intel.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2013-11-19hsr: don't call genl_unregister_mc_group()Johannes Berg
There's no need to unregister the multicast group if the generic netlink family is registered immediately after. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes.berg@intel.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2013-11-19genetlink: only pass array to genl_register_family_with_ops()Johannes Berg
As suggested by David Miller, make genl_register_family_with_ops() a macro and pass only the array, evaluating ARRAY_SIZE() in the macro, this is a little safer. The openvswitch has some indirection, assing ops/n_ops directly in that code. This might ultimately just assign the pointers in the family initializations, saving the struct genl_family_and_ops and code (once mcast groups are handled differently.) 2013-11-14net/hsr: Fix possible leak in 'hsr_get_node_status()'Geyslan G. Bem
If 'hsr_get_node_data()' returns error, going directly to 'fail' label doesn't free the memory pointed by 'skb_out'. Signed-off-by: Geyslan G. Bem <geyslan@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2013-11-14genetlink: make all genl_ops users constJohannes Berg
Now that genl_ops are no longer modified in place when registering, they can be made const. This patch was done mostly with spatch: @@ identifier ops; @@ +const struct genl_ops ops[] = { ... }; (except the struct thing in net/openvswitch/datapath.c) Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes.berg@intel.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2013-11-14hsr: use genl_register_family_with_ops()Johannes Berg
This simplifies the code since there's no longer a need to have error handling in the registration. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes.berg@intel.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2013-11-03net/hsr: Add support for the High-availability Seamless Redundancy protocol ↵Arvid Brodin
(HSRv0) High-availability Seamless Redundancy ("HSR") provides instant failover redundancy for Ethernet networks. It requires a special network topology where all nodes are connected in a ring (each node having two physical network interfaces). It is suited for applications that demand high availability and very short reaction time. HSR acts on the Ethernet layer, using a registered Ethernet protocol type to send special HSR frames in both directions over the ring. The driver creates virtual network interfaces that can be used just like any ordinary Linux network interface, for IP/TCP/UDP traffic etc. All nodes in the network ring must be HSR capable. This code is a "best effort" to comply with the HSR standard as described in IEC 62439-3:2010 (HSRv0). Signed-off-by: Arvid Brodin <arvid.brodin@xdin.com> Signed-off-by: David S.
