Clean up the existing export namespace code along the same lines of
commit 33def8498fdd ("treewide: Convert macro and uses of __section(foo)

namespace argument to be a macro expansion itself.

The continual trickle of small conversion patches is grating on me, and
is really not helping. Just get rid of the 'remove_new' member
function, which is just an alias for the plain 'remove', and had a
comment to that effect:
/*
* .remove_new() is a relic from a prototype conversion of .remove().
* New drivers are supposed to implement .remove(). Once all drivers are
* converted to not use .remove_new any more, it will be dropped.
*/
This was just a tree-wide 'sed' script that replaced '.remove_new' with
'.remove', with some care taken to turn a subsequent tab into two tabs
to make things line up.
I did do some minimal manual whitespace adjustment for places that used
spaces to line things up.
Then I just removed the old (sic) .remove_new member function, and this
is the end result. No more unnecessary conversion noise.

vsc_identify_silicon() returns -EINVAL in various places without logging
what is going on.
And there are several bug reports about mei_vsc_hw_reset() failing with
-EINVAL before the "silicon stepping version is %u:%u" message get logged,
indicating this is coming from vsc_identify_silicon():

The only 2 callers of vsc_tp_reset() are:
1. mei_vsc_hw_reset(), which immediataly calls vsc_tp_intr_disable()
afterwards.
2. vsc_tp_shutdown() which immediately calls free_irq() afterwards.
So neither actually wants the interrupt to be enabled after resetting
the chip and having the interrupt enabled for a short time afer
the reset is undesirable.
Drop the enable_irq() call from vsc_tp_reset(), so that the interrupt
is left disabled after vsc_tp_reset().

Read buffer is allocated according to max message size, reported by
the firmware and may reach 64K in systems with pxp client.
Contiguous 64k allocation may fail under memory pressure.
Read buffer is used as in-driver message storage and not required
to be contiguous.
Use kvmalloc to allow kernel to allocate non-contiguous memory.

no_llseek had been defined to NULL two years ago, in commit 868941b14441
("fs: remove no_llseek")
To quote that commit,
At -rc1 we'll need do a mechanical removal of no_llseek -
git grep -l -w no_llseek | grep -v porting.rst | while read i; do
sed -i '/\<no_llseek\>/d' $i
done
would do it.
Unfortunately, that hadn't been done. Linus, could you do that now, so
that we could finally put that thing to rest? All instances are of the
form
.llseek = no_llseek,
so it's obviously safe.

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gregkh/driver-core
Pull driver core updates from Greg KH:
"Here is the big set of driver core changes for 6.11-rc1.
Lots of stuff in here, with not a huge diffstat, but apis are evolving
which required lots of files to be touched. Highlights of the changes
in here are:
- platform remove callback api final fixups (Uwe took many releases
to get here, finally!)
- Rust bindings for basic firmware apis and initial driver-core
interactions.
It's not all that useful for a "write a whole driver in rust" type
of thing, but the firmware bindings do help out the phy rust
drivers, and the driver core bindings give a solid base on which
others can start their work.
There is still a long way to go here before we have a multitude of
rust drivers being added, but it's a great first step.
- driver core const api changes.
This reached across all bus types, and there are some fix-ups for
some not-common bus types that linux-next and 0-day testing shook
out.
This work is being done to help make the rust bindings more safe,
as well as the C code, moving toward the end-goal of allowing us to
put driver structures into read-only memory. We aren't there yet,
but are getting closer.
- minor devres cleanups and fixes found by code inspection
- arch_topology minor changes
- other minor driver core cleanups
All of these have been in linux-next for a very long time with no
reported problems"

Before downloading firmware, a command response is required to
identify the silicon. However, when downloading IVSC firmware,
reading data from the SPI transfers with the IVSC ROM is not
necessary. Therefore, the rx buffer of SPI transfer command is

In the match() callback, the struct device_driver * should not be
changed, so change the function callback to be a const *. This is one
step of many towards making the driver core safe to have struct
device_driver in read-only memory.
Because the match() callback is in all busses, all busses are modified
to handle this properly. This does entail switching some container_of()
calls to container_of_const() to properly handle the constant *.
For some busses, like PCI and USB and HV, the const * is cast away in
the match callback as those busses do want to modify those structures at
this point in time (they have a local lock in the driver structure.)
That will have to be changed in the future if they wish to have their
struct device * in read-only-memory.

When using an initializer for a union only one of the union members
must be initialized. The initializer for the acpi_object union variable
passed as argument to the SID ACPI method was initializing both
the type and the integer members of the union.
Unfortunately rather then complaining about this gcc simply ignores
the first initializer and only used the second integer.value = 1
initializer. Leaving type set to 0 which leads to the argument being
skipped by acpi acpi_ns_evaluate() resulting in:
ACPI Warning: \_SB.PC00.SPI1.SPFD.CVFD.SID: Insufficient arguments -
Caller passed 0, method requires 1 (20240322/nsarguments-232)
Fix this by initializing only the integer struct part of the union

The dynamically created mei client device (mei csi) is used as one V4L2
sub device of the whole video pipeline, and the V4L2 connection graph is
built by software node. The mei_stop() and mei_restart() will delete the
old mei csi client device and create a new mei client device, which will
cause the software node information saved in old mei csi device lost and
the whole video pipeline will be broken.
Removing mei_stop()/mei_restart() during system suspend/resume can fix
the issue above and won't impact hardware actual power saving logic.

Change level for the "not connected" client message in the write
callback from error to debug.
The MEI driver currently disconnects all clients upon system suspend.
This behavior is by design and user-space applications with
open connections before the suspend are expected to handle errors upon
resume, by reopening their handles, reconnecting,
and retrying their operations.
However, the current driver implementation logs an error message every
time a write operation is attempted on a disconnected client.
Since this is a normal and expected flow after system resume
logging this as an error can be misleading.

With the rework of how the __string() handles dynamic strings where it
saves off the source string in field in the helper structure[1], the
assignment of that value to the trace event field is stored in the helper
value and does not need to be passed in again.
This means that with:
__string(field, mystring)
Which use to be assigned with __assign_str(field, mystring), no longer
needs the second parameter and it is unused. With this, __assign_str()
will now only get a single parameter.
There's over 700 users of __assign_str() and because coccinelle does not
handle the TRACE_EVENT() macro I ended up using the following sed script:
git grep -l __assign_str | while read a ; do
sed -e 's/\(__assign_str([^,]*[^ ,]\) *,[^;]*/\1)/' $a > /tmp/test-file;
mv /tmp/test-file $a;
done
I then searched for __assign_str() that did not end with ';' as those
were multi line assignments that the sed script above would fail to catch.
Note, the same updates will need to be done for:
__assign_str_len()
__assign_rel_str()
__assign_rel_str_len()
I tested this with both an allmodconfig and an allyesconfig (build only for both).

an interrupt handler as the interrupt handler itself would be called in a

On Arrow Lake S systems, MEI is no longer strictly connected to bus 0,
while graphics remain exclusively on bus 0. Adapt the component
matching logic to accommodate this change:
Original behavior: Required both MEI and graphics to be on the same
bus 0.
New behavior: Only enforces graphics to be on bus 0 (integrated),
allowing MEI to reside on any bus.
This ensures compatibility with Arrow Lake S and maintains functionality
for the legacy systems.

The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes
many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by
returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart
from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks.
To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return
void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to
.remove_new(), which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers
are converted, .remove_new() will be renamed to .remove().
Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove
callback to the void returning variant.
