2024-02-21udp: add local "peek offset enabled" flagPaolo Abeni
We want to re-organize the struct sock layout. The sk_peek_off field location is problematic, as most protocols want it in the RX read area, while UDP wants it on a cacheline different from sk_receive_queue. Create a local (inside udp_sock) copy of the 'peek offset is enabled' flag and place it inside the same cacheline of reader_queue. Check such flag before reading sk_peek_off. This will save potential false sharing and cache misses in the fast-path. Tested under UDP flood with small packets. The struct sock layout update causes a 4% performance drop, and this patch restores completely the original tput. 2023-10-11bpf: Propagate modified uaddrlen from cgroup sockaddr programsDaan De Meyer
As prep for adding unix socket support to the cgroup sockaddr hooks, let's propagate the sockaddr length back to the caller after running a bpf cgroup sockaddr hook program. While not important for AF_INET or AF_INET6, the sockaddr length is important when working with AF_UNIX sockaddrs as the size of the sockaddr cannot be determined just from the address family or the sockaddr's contents. __cgroup_bpf_run_filter_sock_addr() is modified to take the uaddrlen as an input/output argument. After running the program, the modified sockaddr length is stored in the uaddrlen pointer. 2023-10-09bpf: Derive source IP addr via bpf_*_fib_lookup()Martynas Pumputis
Extend the bpf_fib_lookup() helper by making it to return the source IPv4/IPv6 address if the BPF_FIB_LOOKUP_SRC flag is set. For example, the following snippet can be used to derive the desired source IP address: struct bpf_fib_lookup p = { .ipv4_dst = ip4->daddr }; ret = bpf_skb_fib_lookup(skb, p, sizeof(p), BPF_FIB_LOOKUP_SRC | BPF_FIB_LOOKUP_SKIP_NEIGH); if (ret != BPF_FIB_LKUP_RET_SUCCESS) return TC_ACT_SHOT; /* the p.ipv4_src now contains the source address */ The inability to derive the proper source address may cause malfunctions in BPF-based dataplanes for hosts containing netdevs with more than one routable IP address or for multi-homed hosts. For example, Cilium implements packet masquerading in BPF. If an egressing netdev to which the Cilium's BPF prog is attached has multiple IP addresses, then only one [hardcoded] IP address can be used for masquerading. This breaks connectivity if any other IP address should have been selected instead, for example, when a public and private addresses are attached to the same egress interface. The change was tested with Cilium [1]. Nikolay Aleksandrov helped to figure out the IPv6 addr selection. 2023-07-24ipv6: remove hard coded limitation on ipv6_pinfoEric Dumazet
IPv6 inet sockets are supposed to have a "struct ipv6_pinfo" field at the end of their definition, so that inet6_sk_generic() can derive from socket size the offset of the "struct ipv6_pinfo". This is very fragile, and prevents adding bigger alignment in sockets, because inet6_sk_generic() does not work if the compiler adds padding after the ipv6_pinfo component. We are currently working on a patch series to reorganize TCP structures for better data locality and found issues similar to the one fixed in commit f5d547676ca0 ("tcp: fix tcp_inet6_sk() for 32bit kernels") Alternative would be to force an alignment on "struct ipv6_pinfo", greater or equal to __alignof__(any ipv6 sock) to ensure there is no padding. 2023-06-15net: ioctl: Use kernel memory on protocol ioctl callbacksBreno Leitao
Most of the ioctls to net protocols operates directly on userspace argument (arg). Usually doing get_user()/put_user() directly in the ioctl callback. This is not flexible, because it is hard to reuse these functions without passing userspace buffers. Change the "struct proto" ioctls to avoid touching userspace memory and operate on kernel buffers, i.e., all protocol's ioctl callbacks is adapted to operate on a kernel memory other than on userspace (so, no more {put,get}_user() and friends being called in the ioctl callback). This changes the "struct proto" ioctl format in the following way: int (*ioctl)(struct sock *sk, int cmd, - unsigned long arg); + int *karg); (Important to say that this patch does not touch the "struct proto_ops" protocols) So, the "karg" argument, which is passed to the ioctl callback, is a pointer allocated to kernel space memory (inside a function wrapper). This buffer (karg) may contain input argument (copied from userspace in a prep function) and it might return a value/buffer, which is copied back to userspace if necessary. There is not one-size-fits-all format (that is I am using 'may' above), but basically, there are three type of ioctls: 1) Do not read from userspace, returns a result to userspace 2) Read an input parameter from userspace, and does not return anything to userspace 3) Read an input from userspace, and return a buffer to userspace. The default case (1) (where no input parameter is given, and an "int" is returned to userspace) encompasses more than 90% of the cases, but there are two other exceptions. Here is a list of exceptions: * Protocol RAW: * cmd = SIOCGETVIFCNT: * input and output = struct sioc_vif_req * cmd = SIOCGETSGCNT * input and output = struct sioc_sg_req * Explanation: for the SIOCGETVIFCNT case, userspace passes the input argument, which is struct sioc_vif_req. Then the callback populates the struct, which is copied back to userspace. * Protocol RAW6: * cmd = SIOCGETMIFCNT_IN6 * input and output = struct sioc_mif_req6 * cmd = SIOCGETSGCNT_IN6 * input and output = struct sioc_sg_req6 * Protocol PHONET: * cmd == SIOCPNADDRESOURCE | SIOCPNDELRESOURCE * input int (4 bytes) * Nothing is copied back to userspace. For the exception cases, functions sock_sk_ioctl_inout() will copy the userspace input, and copy it back to kernel space. The wrapper that prepare the buffer and put the buffer back to user is sk_ioctl(), so, instead of calling sk->sk_prot->ioctl(), the callee now calls sk_ioctl(), which will handle all cases. 2023-06-08ipv4, ipv6: Use splice_eof() to flushDavid Howells
Allow splice to undo the effects of MSG_MORE after prematurely ending a splice/sendfile due to getting an EOF condition (->splice_read() returned 0) after splice had called sendmsg() with MSG_MORE set when the user didn't set MSG_MORE. For UDP, a pending packet will not be emitted if the socket is closed before it is flushed; with this change, it be flushed by ->splice_eof(). For TCP, it's not clear that MSG_MORE is actually effective. However, commit 03485f2adcde ("udpv6: Add lockless sendmsg() support") added a lockless memory allocation path, which could cause a memory leak: setsockopt(IPV6_ADDRFORM) sendmsg() +-----------------------+ +-------+ - do_ipv6_setsockopt(sk, ...) - udpv6_sendmsg(sk, ...) - sockopt_lock_sock(sk) ^._ called via udpv6_prot - lock_sock(sk) before WRITE_ONCE() - WRITE_ONCE(sk->sk_prot, &tcp_prot) - inet6_destroy_sock() - if (!corkreq) - sockopt_release_sock(sk) - ip6_make_skb(sk, ...) - release_sock(sk) ^._ lockless fast path for the non-corking case - __ip6_append_data(sk, ...) - ipv6_local_rxpmtu(sk, ...) - xchg(&np->rxpmtu, skb) ^._ rxpmtu is never freed. - goto out_no_dst; - lock_sock(sk) For now, rxpmtu is only the case, but not to miss the future change and a similar bug fixed in commit e27326009a3d ("net: ping6: Fix memleak in ipv6_renew_options()."), let's set a new function to IPv6 sk->sk_destruct() and call inet6_cleanup_sock() there. This is due to the discrepancy between inet6_destroy_sock() and IPV6_ADDRFORM, so let's call inet6_destroy_sock() from IPV6_ADDRFORM to remove the difference. However, this is not enough for now because rxpmtu can be changed without lock_sock() after commit 03485f2adcde ("udpv6: Add lockless sendmsg() support"). We will fix this case in the following patch. Note we will rename inet6_destroy_sock() to inet6_cleanup_sock() and remove unnecessary inet6_destroy_sock() calls in sk_prot->destroy() in the future. 2022-09-02bpf: Change bpf_getsockopt(SOL_IPV6) to reuse do_ipv6_getsockopt()Martin KaFai Lau
This patch changes bpf_getsockopt(SOL_IPV6) to reuse do_ipv6_getsockopt(). It removes the duplicated code from bpf_getsockopt(SOL_IPV6). This also makes bpf_getsockopt(SOL_IPV6) supporting the same set of optnames as in bpf_setsockopt(SOL_IPV6). In particular, this adds IPV6_AUTOFLOWLABEL support to bpf_getsockopt(SOL_IPV6). ipv6 could be compiled as a module. Like how other code solved it with stubs in ipv6_stubs.h, this patch adds the do_ipv6_getsockopt to the ipv6_bpf_stub. 2022-08-18bpf: Change bpf_setsockopt(SOL_IPV6) to reuse do_ipv6_setsockopt()Martin KaFai Lau
After the prep work in the previous patches, this patch removes the dup code from bpf_setsockopt(SOL_IPV6) and reuses the implementation in do_ipv6_setsockopt(). ipv6 could be compiled as a module. Like how other code solved it with stubs in ipv6_stubs.h, this patch adds the do_ipv6_setsockopt to the ipv6_bpf_stub. The current bpf_setsockopt(IPV6_TCLASS) does not take the INET_ECN_MASK into the account for tcp. The do_ipv6_setsockopt(IPV6_TCLASS) will handle it correctly. The existing optname white-list is refactored into a new function sol_ipv6_setsockopt(). After this last SOL_IPV6 dup code removal, the __bpf_setsockopt() is simplified enough that the extra "{ }" around the if statement can be removed. Currently both splice() and sockmap use ->read_sock() to read skb from receive queue, but for sockmap we only read one entire skb at a time, so ->read_sock() is too conservative to use. Introduce a new proto_ops ->read_skb() which supports this sematic, with this we can finally pass the ownership of skb to recv actors. 2022-02-18ipv6: annotate some data-races around sk->sk_protEric Dumazet
IPv6 has this hack changing sk->sk_prot when an IPv6 socket is 'converted' to an IPv4 one with IPV6_ADDRFORM option. This operation is only performed for TCP and UDP, knowing their 'struct proto' for the two network families are populated in the same way, and can not disappear while a reader might use and dereference sk->sk_prot. If we think about it all reads of sk->sk_prot while either socket lock or RTNL is not acquired should be using READ_ONCE(). Also note that other layers like MPTCP, XFRM, CHELSIO_TLS also write over sk->sk_prot. 2022-01-06net: bpf: Handle return value of BPF_CGROUP_RUN_PROG_INET{4,6}_POST_BIND()Menglong Dong
The return value of BPF_CGROUP_RUN_PROG_INET{4,6}_POST_BIND() in __inet_bind() is not handled properly. While the return value is non-zero, it will set inet_saddr and inet_rcv_saddr to 0 and exit: err = BPF_CGROUP_RUN_PROG_INET4_POST_BIND(sk); if (err) { inet->inet_saddr = inet->inet_rcv_saddr = 0; goto out_release_sock; } Let's take UDP for example and see what will happen. For UDP socket, it will be added to 'udp_prot.h.udp_table->hash' and 'udp_prot.h.udp_table->hash2' after the sk->sk_prot->get_port() called success. If 'inet->inet_rcv_saddr' is specified here, then 'sk' will be in the 'hslot2' of 'hash2' that it don't belong to (because inet_saddr is changed to 0), and UDP packet received will not be passed to this sock. If 'inet->inet_rcv_saddr' is not specified here, the sock will work fine, as it can receive packet properly, which is wired, as the 'bind()' is already failed. To undo the get_port() operation, introduce the 'put_port' field for 'struct proto'. For TCP proto, it is inet_put_port(); For UDP proto, it is udp_lib_unhash(); For icmp proto, it is ping_unhash(). Therefore, after sys_bind() fail caused by BPF_CGROUP_RUN_PROG_INET4_POST_BIND(), it will be unbinded, which means that it can try to be binded to another port. 2021-08-23bpf: Migrate cgroup_bpf to internal cgroup_bpf_attach_type enumDave Marchevsky
Add an enum (cgroup_bpf_attach_type) containing only valid cgroup_bpf attach types and a function to map bpf_attach_type values to the new enum. Inspired by netns_bpf_attach_type. Then, migrate cgroup_bpf to use cgroup_bpf_attach_type wherever possible. Functionality is unchanged as attach_type_to_prog_type switches in bpf/syscall.c were preventing non-cgroup programs from making use of the invalid cgroup_bpf array slots. As a result struct cgroup_bpf uses 504 fewer bytes relative to when its arrays were sized using MAX_BPF_ATTACH_TYPE. bpf_cgroup_storage is notably not migrated as struct bpf_cgroup_storage_key is part of uapi and contains a bpf_attach_type member which is not meant to be opaque. Similarly, bpf_cgroup_link continues to report its bpf_attach_type member to userspace via fdinfo and bpf_link_info. To ease disambiguation, bpf_attach_type variables are renamed from 'type' to 'atype' when changed to cgroup_bpf_attach_type. 2021-07-21ipv6: ioam: Data plane support for Pre-allocated TraceJustin Iurman
Implement support for processing the IOAM Pre-allocated Trace with IPv6, see [1] and [2]. Introduce a new IPv6 Hop-by-Hop TLV option, see IANA [3]. A new per-interface sysctl is introduced. The value is a boolean to accept (=1) or ignore (=0, by default) IPv6 IOAM options on ingress for an interface: - net.ipv6.conf.XXX.ioam6_enabled Two other sysctls are introduced to define IOAM IDs, represented by an integer. They are respectively per-namespace and per-interface: - net.ipv6.ioam6_id - net.ipv6.conf.XXX.ioam6_id The value of the first one represents the IOAM ID of the node itself (u32; max and default value = U32_MAX>>8, due to hop limit concatenation) while the other represents the IOAM ID of an interface (u16; max and default value = U16_MAX). Each "ioam6_id" sysctl has a "_wide" equivalent: - net.ipv6.ioam6_id_wide - net.ipv6.conf.XXX.ioam6_id_wide The value of the first one represents the wide IOAM ID of the node itself (u64; max and default value = U64_MAX>>8, due to hop limit concatenation) while the other represents the wide IOAM ID of an interface (u32; max and default value = U32_MAX). The use of short and wide equivalents is not exclusive, a deployment could choose to leverage both. For example, net.ipv6.conf.XXX.ioam6_id (short format) could be an identifier for a physical interface, whereas net.ipv6.conf.XXX.ioam6_id_wide (wide format) could be an identifier for a logical sub-interface. Documentation about new sysctls is provided at the end of this patchset. Two relativistic hash tables are used: one for IOAM namespaces, the other for IOAM schemas. A namespace can only have a single active schema and a schema can only be attached to a single namespace (1:1 relationship).
