2024-03-06inet: Add getsockopt support for IP_ROUTER_ALERT and IPV6_ROUTER_ALERTJuntong Deng
Currently getsockopt does not support IP_ROUTER_ALERT and IPV6_ROUTER_ALERT, and we are unable to get the values of these two socket options through getsockopt. This patch adds getsockopt support for IP_ROUTER_ALERT and IPV6_ROUTER_ALERT. 2024-01-21udp: fix busy pollingEric Dumazet
Generic sk_busy_loop_end() only looks at sk->sk_receive_queue for presence of packets. Problem is that for UDP sockets after blamed commit, some packets could be present in another queue: udp_sk(sk)->reader_queue In some cases, a busy poller could spin until timeout expiration, even if some packets are available in udp_sk(sk)->reader_queue. v3: - make sk_busy_loop_end() nicer (Willem) v2: - add a READ_ONCE(sk->sk_family) in sk_is_inet() to avoid KCSAN splats. - add a sk_is_inet() check in sk_is_udp() (Willem feedback) - add a sk_is_inet() check in sk_is_tcp(). 2023-12-08Use READ/WRITE_ONCE() for IP local_port_range.David Laight
Commit 227b60f5102cd added a seqlock to ensure that the low and high port numbers were always updated together. This is overkill because the two 16bit port numbers can be held in a u32 and read/written in a single instruction. More recently 91d0b78c5177f added support for finer per-socket limits. The user-supplied value is 'high << 16 | low' but they are held separately and the socket options protected by the socket lock. Use a u32 containing 'high << 16 | low' for both the 'net' and 'sk' fields and use READ_ONCE()/WRITE_ONCE() to ensure both values are always updated together. Change (the now trival) inet_get_local_port_range() to a static inline to optimise the calling code. (In particular avoiding returning integers by reference.) 2023-10-25ipv6: drop feature RTAX_FEATURE_ALLFRAGYan Zhai
RTAX_FEATURE_ALLFRAG was added before the first git commit: https://www.mail-archive.com/bk-commits-head@vger.kernel.org/msg03399.html The feature would send packets to the fragmentation path if a box receives a PMTU value with less than 1280 byte. However, since commit 9d289715eb5c ("ipv6: stop sending PTB packets for MTU < 1280"), such message would be simply discarded. The feature flag is neither supported in iproute2 utility. In theory one can still manipulate it with direct netlink message, but it is not ideal because it was based on obsoleted guidance of RFC-2460 (replaced by RFC-8200). The feature would always test false at the moment, so remove related code or mark them as unused. 2023-01-25inet: Add IP_LOCAL_PORT_RANGE socket optionJakub Sitnicki
Users who want to share a single public IP address for outgoing connections between several hosts traditionally reach for SNAT. However, SNAT requires state keeping on the node(s) performing the NAT. A stateless alternative exists, where a single IP address used for egress can be shared between several hosts by partitioning the available ephemeral port range. In such a setup: 1. Each host gets assigned a disjoint range of ephemeral ports. 2. Applications open connections from the host-assigned port range. 3. Return traffic gets routed to the host based on both, the destination IP and the destination port. An application which wants to open an outgoing connection (connect) from a given port range today can choose between two solutions: 1. Manually pick the source port by bind()'ing to it before connect()'ing the socket. This approach has a couple of downsides: a) Search for a free port has to be implemented in the user-space. If the chosen 4-tuple happens to be busy, the application needs to retry from a different local port number. Detecting if 4-tuple is busy can be either easy (TCP) or hard (UDP). In TCP case, the application simply has to check if connect() returned an error (EADDRNOTAVAIL). That is assuming that the local port sharing was enabled (REUSEADDR) by all the sockets. # Assume desired local port range is 60_000-60_511 s = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM) s.setsockopt(SOL_SOCKET, SO_REUSEADDR, 1) s.bind(("192.0.2.1", 60_000)) s.connect(("1.1.1.1", 53)) # Fails only if 192.0.2.1:60000 -> 1.1.1.1:53 is busy # Application must retry with another local port In case of UDP, the network stack allows binding more than one socket to the same 4-tuple, when local port sharing is enabled (REUSEADDR). Hence detecting the conflict is much harder and involves querying sock_diag and toggling the REUSEADDR flag [1]. b) For TCP, bind()-ing to a port within the ephemeral port range means that no connecting sockets, that is those which leave it to the network stack to find a free local port at connect() time, can use the this port. IOW, the bind hash bucket tb->fastreuse will be 0 or 1, and the port will be skipped during the free port search at connect() time. 2. Isolate the app in a dedicated netns and use the use the per-netns ip_local_port_range sysctl to adjust the ephemeral port range bounds. The per-netns setting affects all sockets, so this approach can be used only if: - there is just one egress IP address, or - the desired egress port range is the same for all egress IP addresses used by the application. For TCP, this approach avoids the downsides of (1). Free port search and 4-tuple conflict detection is done by the network stack: system("sysctl -w net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range='60000 60511'") s = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM) s.setsockopt(SOL_IP, IP_BIND_ADDRESS_NO_PORT, 1) s.bind(("192.0.2.1", 0)) s.connect(("1.1.1.1", 53)) # Fails if all 4-tuples 192.0.2.1:60000-60511 -> 1.1.1.1:53 are busy For UDP this approach has limited applicability. Setting the IP_BIND_ADDRESS_NO_PORT socket option does not result in local source port being shared with other connected UDP sockets. Hence relying on the network stack to find a free source port, limits the number of outgoing UDP flows from a single IP address down to the number of available ephemeral ports. To put it another way, partitioning the ephemeral port range between hosts using the existing Linux networking API is cumbersome. To address this use case, add a new socket option at the SOL_IP level, named IP_LOCAL_PORT_RANGE. The new option can be used to clamp down the ephemeral port range for each socket individually. The option can be used only to narrow down the per-netns local port range. If the per-socket range lies outside of the per-netns range, the latter takes precedence. UAPI-wise, the low and high range bounds are passed to the kernel as a pair of u16 values in host byte order packed into a u32. This avoids pointer passing. PORT_LO = 40_000 PORT_HI = 40_511 s = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM) v = struct.pack("I", PORT_HI << 16 | PORT_LO) s.setsockopt(SOL_IP, IP_LOCAL_PORT_RANGE, v) s.bind(("127.0.0.1", 0)) s.getsockname() # Local address between ("127.0.0.1", 40_000) and ("127.0.0.1", 40_511), # if there is a free port. 2022-07-29net: allow unbound socket for packets in VRF when tcp_l3mdev_accept setMike Manning
The commit 3c82a21f4320 ("net: allow binding socket in a VRF when there's an unbound socket") changed the inet socket lookup to avoid packets in a VRF from matching an unbound socket. This is to ensure the necessary isolation between the default and other VRFs for routing and forwarding. VRF-unaware processes running in the default VRF cannot access another VRF and have to be run with 'ip vrf exec <vrf>'. This is to be expected with tcp_l3mdev_accept disabled, but could be reallowed when this sysctl option is enabled. So instead of directly checking dif and sdif in inet[6]_match, here call inet_sk_bound_dev_eq(). This allows a match on unbound socket for non-zero sdif i.e. for packets in a VRF, if tcp_l3mdev_accept is enabled. 2022-06-23sock: redo the psock vs ULP protection checkJakub Kicinski
Commit 8a59f9d1e3d4 ("sock: Introduce sk->sk_prot->psock_update_sk_prot()") has moved the inet_csk_has_ulp(sk) check from sk_psock_init() to the new tcp_bpf_update_proto() function. I'm guessing that this was done to allow creating psocks for non-inet sockets. Unfortunately the destruction path for psock includes the ULP unwind, so we need to fail the sk_psock_init() itself. Otherwise if ULP is already present we'll notice that later, and call tcp_update_ulp() with the sk_proto of the ULP itself, which will most likely result in the ULP looping its callbacks. Add support to inet v4 raw sockets for binding to nonlocal addresses through the IP_FREEBIND and IP_TRANSPARENT socket options, as well as the ipv4.ip_nonlocal_bind kernel parameter. Add helper function to inet_sock.h to check for bind address validity on the base of the address type and whether nonlocal address are enabled for the socket via any of the sockopts/sysctl, deduplicating checks in ipv4/ping.c, ipv4/af_inet.c, ipv6/af_inet6.c (for mapped v4->v6 addresses), and ipv4/raw.c. Add test cases with IP[V6]_FREEBIND verifying that both v4 and v6 raw sockets support binding to nonlocal addresses after the change. Add necessary support for the test cases to nettest. 2020-07-19icmp: support rfc 4884Willem de Bruijn
Add setsockopt SOL_IP/IP_RECVERR_4884 to return the offset to an extension struct if present. ICMP messages may include an extension structure after the original datagram. RFC 4884 standardized this behavior. It stores the offset in words to the extension header in u8 icmphdr.un.reserved[1]. The field is valid only for ICMP types destination unreachable, time exceeded and parameter problem, if length is at least 128 bytes and entire packet does not exceed 576 bytes. Return the offset to the start of the extension struct when reading an ICMP error from the error queue, if it matches the above constraints. Do not return the raw u8 field. Return the offset from the start of the user buffer, in bytes. The kernel does not return the network and transport headers, so subtract those. Also validate the headers. Return the offset regardless of validation, as an invalid extension must still not be misinterpreted as part of the original datagram. Note that !invalid does not imply valid. If the extension version does not match, no validation can take place, for instance. For backward compatibility, make this optional, set by setsockopt SOL_IP/IP_RECVERR_RFC4884. For API example and feature test, see github.com/wdebruij/kerneltools/blob/master/tests/recv_icmp_v2.c For forward compatibility, reserve only setsockopt value 1, leaving other bits for additional icmp extensions. Changes v1->v2: - convert word offset to byte offset from start of user buffer - return in ee_data as u8 may be insufficient - define extension struct and object header structs - return len only if constraints met - if returning len, also validate Signed-off-by: Willem de Bruijn <willemb@google.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2020-03-02net: inet_sock: Replace zero-length array with flexible-array memberGustavo A. R. Silva
The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2], introduced in C99: struct foo { int stuff; struct boo array[]; }; By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on. Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by this change: "Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1] This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle. 2019-09-13ip: support SO_MARK cmsgWillem de Bruijn
Enable setting skb->mark for UDP and RAW sockets using cmsg. This is analogous to existing support for TOS, TTL, txtime, etc. Packet sockets already support this as of commit c7d39e32632e ("packet: support per-packet fwmark for af_packet sendmsg"). Similar to other fields, implement by 1. initialize the sockcm_cookie.mark from socket option sk_mark 2. optionally overwrite this in ip_cmsg_send/ip6_datagram_send_ctl 3. initialize inet_cork.mark from sockcm_cookie.mark 4. initialize each (usually just one) skb->mark from inet_cork.mark Step 1 is handled in one location for most protocols by ipcm_init_sk as of commit 351782067b6b ("ipv4: ipcm_cookie initializers"). 2018-11-07net: ensure unbound stream socket to be chosen when not in a VRFMike Manning
The commit a04a480d4392 ("net: Require exact match for TCP socket lookups if dif is l3mdev") only ensures that the correct socket is selected for packets in a VRF. However, there is no guarantee that the unbound socket will be selected for packets when not in a VRF. By checking for a device match in compute_score() also for the case when there is no bound device and attaching a score to this, the unbound socket is selected. And if a failure is returned when there is no device match, this ensures that bound sockets are never selected, even if there is no unbound socket. 2018-11-07net: allow binding socket in a VRF when there's an unbound socketRobert Shearman
Change the inet socket lookup to avoid packets arriving on a device enslaved to an l3mdev from matching unbound sockets by removing the wildcard for non sk_bound_dev_if and instead relying on check against the secondary device index, which will be 0 when the input device is not enslaved to an l3mdev and so match against an unbound socket and not match when the input device is enslaved. Change the socket binding to take the l3mdev into account to allow an unbound socket to not conflict sockets bound to an l3mdev given the datapath isolation now guaranteed. 2018-10-02inet: make sure to grab rcu_read_lock before using ireq->ireq_optEric Dumazet
Timer handlers do not imply rcu_read_lock(), so my recent fix triggered a LOCKDEP warning when SYNACK is retransmit. Lets add rcu_read_lock()/rcu_read_unlock() pairs around ireq->ireq_opt usages instead of guessing what is done by callers, since it is not worth the pain. Get rid of ireq_opt_deref() helper since it hides the logic without real benefit, since it is now a standard rcu_dereference(). 2018-10-01tcp/dccp: fix lockdep issue when SYN is backloggedEric Dumazet
In normal SYN processing, packets are handled without listener lock and in RCU protected ingress path. But syzkaller is known to be able to trick us and SYN packets might be processed in process context, after being queued into socket backlog. In commit 06f877d613be ("tcp/dccp: fix other lockdep splats accessing ireq_opt") I made a very stupid fix, that happened to work mostly because of the regular path being RCU protected. Really the thing protecting ireq->ireq_opt is RCU read lock, and the pseudo request refcnt is not relevant. This patch extends what I did in commit 449809a66c1d ("tcp/dccp: block BH for SYN processing") by adding an extra rcu_read_{lock|unlock} pair in the paths that might be taken when processing SYN from socket backlog (thus possibly in process context) Fixes: 06f877d613be ("tcp/dccp: fix other lockdep splats accessing ireq_opt") Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> Reported-by: syzbot <syzkaller@googlegroups.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2018-04-26udp: generate gso with UDP_SEGMENTWillem de Bruijn
Support generic segmentation offload for udp datagrams. Callers can concatenate and send at once the payload of multiple datagrams with the same destination. To set segment size, the caller sets socket option UDP_SEGMENT to the length of each discrete payload. This value must be smaller than or equal to the relevant MTU. A follow-up patch adds cmsg UDP_SEGMENT to specify segment size on a per send call basis. Total byte length may then exceed MTU. If not an exact multiple of segment size, the last segment will be shorter. The implementation adds a gso_size field to the udp socket, ip(v6) cmsg cookie and inet_cork structure to be able to set the value at setsockopt or cmsg time and to work with both lockless and corked paths.
