2024-04-08net: handle HAS_IOPORT dependenciesNiklas Schnelle
In a future patch HAS_IOPORT=n will disable inb()/outb() and friends at compile time. We thus need to add HAS_IOPORT as dependency for those drivers requiring them. For the DEFXX driver the use of I/O ports is optional and we only need to fence specific code paths. It also turns out that with HAS_IOPORT handled explicitly HAMRADIO does not need the !S390 dependency and successfully builds the bpqether driver. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/glaubitz/sh-linux Pull sh updates from John Paul Adrian Glaubitz: "While the previously announced patch series for converting arch/sh to device trees is not yet ready for inclusion to mainline and therefore didn't make it for this pull request, there are still a small number changes for v6.7 which include one platform (board plus CPU and driver code) removal plus two fixes. The removal sent in by Arnd Bergmann concerns the microdev board which was an early SuperH prototype board that was never used in production. With the board removed, we were able to drop the now unused code for the SH4-202 CPU and well as the driver code for the superhyway bus and a custom implementation for ioport_map() and ioport_unmap() which will allow us to simplify ioport handling in the future. Another patch set by Geert Uytterhoeven revives SuperH BIOS earlyprintk support which got accidentally disabled in e76fe57447e88916 ("sh: Remove old early serial console code V2"), the second patch in the series updates the documentation. Finally, a patch by Masami Hiramatsu fixes a regression reported by the kernel test robot which uncovered that arch/sh is not implementing arch_cmpxchg_local() and therefore needs use __generic_cmpxchg_local() instead" * tag 'sh-for-v6.7-tag1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/glaubitz/sh-linux: locking/atomic: sh: Use generic_cmpxchg_local for arch_cmpxchg_local() Documentation: kernel-parameters: Add earlyprintk=bios on SH sh: bios: Revive earlyprintk support sh: machvec: Remove custom ioport_{un,}map() sh: Remove superhyway bus support sh: Remove unused SH4-202 support sh: Remove stale microdev board
2023-10-25sh: Remove stale microdev boardArnd Bergmann
This board was an early prototype platform for early SH4 CPUs and related to the already removed SH5 cayman platform. The microdev board itself has been kept in the tree for this long despite being in a bad shape even 20 years ago when it got merged, with no working PCI support and ugly workarounds for its I/O port implementation that try to emulate PC style peripheral access despite being quite different in reality. As far as I can tell, the ethernet, display, USB and PCI devices on it already broke at some point (afbb9d8d5266b, 46bc85872040a), so I think we can just removeit entirely. 2023-09-20net: ethernet: smsc: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers are converted, .remove_new() is renamed to .remove(). Trivially convert these drivers from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. 2023-07-27net: Explicitly include correct DT includesRob Herring
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. 2022-05-03smsc911x: allow using IRQ0Sergey Shtylyov
The AlphaProject AP-SH4A-3A/AP-SH4AD-0A SH boards use IRQ0 for their SMSC LAN911x Ethernet chip, so the networking on them must have been broken by commit 965b2aa78fbc ("net/smsc911x: fix irq resource allocation failure") which filtered out 0 as well as the negative error codes -- it was kinda correct at the time, as platform_get_irq() could return 0 on of_irq_get() failure and on the actual 0 in an IRQ resource. This issue was fixed by me (back in 2016!), so we should be able to fix this driver to allow IRQ0 usage again... When merging this to the stable kernels, make sure you also merge commit e330b9a6bb35 ("platform: don't return 0 from platform_get_irq[_byname]() on error") -- that's my fix to platform_get_irq() for the DT platforms... Because platform_get_irq() could fail and return error irq. Therefore, it might be better to check it if order to avoid the use of error irq. 2021-10-19ethernet: smsc: use eth_hw_addr_set()Jakub Kicinski
Commit 406f42fa0d3c ("net-next: When a bond have a massive amount of VLANs...") introduced a rbtree for faster Ethernet address look up. To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all the writes to it got through appropriate helpers. Break the address up into an array on the stack, then call eth_hw_addr_set(). 2021-10-14ethernet: replace netdev->dev_addr 16bit writesJakub Kicinski
Commit 406f42fa0d3c ("net-next: When a bond have a massive amount of VLANs...") introduced a rbtree for faster Ethernet address look up. To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all the writes to it got through appropriate helpers. This patch takes care of drivers which cast netdev->dev_addr to a 16bit type, often with an explicit byte order. 2021-10-14ethernet: constify references to netdev->dev_addr in driversJakub Kicinski
This big patch sprinkles const on local variables and function arguments which may refer to netdev->dev_addr. Commit 406f42fa0d3c ("net-next: When a bond have a massive amount of VLANs...") introduced a rbtree for faster Ethernet address look up. To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all the writes to it got through appropriate helpers. Some of the changes here are not strictly required - const is sometimes cast off but pointer is not used for writing. It seems like it's still better to add the const in case the code changes later or relevant -W flags get enabled for the build. No functional changes. 2021-08-03ethernet: isa: convert to module_init/module_exitArnd Bergmann

2021-08-03make legacy ISA probe optionalArnd Bergmann
There are very few ISA drivers left that rely on the static probing from drivers/net/Space.o. Make them all select a new CONFIG_NETDEV_LEGACY_INIT symbol, and drop the entire probe logic when that is disabled. 2021-07-27dev_ioctl: split out ndo_eth_ioctlArnd Bergmann
Most users of ndo_do_ioctl are ethernet drivers that implement the MII commands SIOCGMIIPHY/SIOCGMIIREG/SIOCSMIIREG, or hardware timestamping with SIOCSHWTSTAMP/SIOCGHWTSTAMP. Separate these from the few drivers that use ndo_do_ioctl to implement SIOCBOND, SIOCBR and SIOCWANDEV commands. This is a purely cosmetic change intended to help readers find their way through the implementation.
