2020-04-14drm/bridge: anx6345: set correct BPC for display_info of connectorVasily Khoruzhick
Some drivers (e.g. sun4i-drm) need this info to decide whether they need to enable dithering. Currently driver reports what panel supports and if panel supports 8 we don't get dithering enabled. Hardcode BPC to 6 for now since that's the only BPC that driver supports. 2020-04-09drm/bridge: analogix_dp: Split bind() into probe() and real bind()Marek Szyprowski
Analogix_dp driver acquires all its resources in the ->bind() callback, what is a bit against the component driver based approach, where the driver initialization is split into a probe(), where all resources are gathered, and a bind(), where all objects are created and a compound driver is initialized. Extract all the resource related operations to analogix_dp_probe() and analogix_dp_remove(), then call them before/after registration of the device components from the main Exynos DP and Rockchip DP drivers. Also move the plat_data initialization to the probe() to make it available for the analogix_dp_probe() function. This fixes the multiple calls to the bind() of the DRM compound driver when the DP PHY driver is not yet loaded/probed: [drm] Exynos DRM: using 14400000.fimd device for DMA mapping operations exynos-drm exynos-drm: bound 14400000.fimd (ops fimd_component_ops [exynosdrm]) exynos-drm exynos-drm: bound 14450000.mixer (ops mixer_component_ops [exynosdrm]) exynos-dp 145b0000.dp-controller: no DP phy configured exynos-drm exynos-drm: failed to bind 145b0000.dp-controller (ops exynos_dp_ops [exynosdrm]): -517 exynos-drm exynos-drm: master bind failed: -517 ... 2020-02-27drm/bridge: analogix-anx6345: fix set of link bandwidthIcenowy Zheng
Current code tries to store the link rate (in bps, which is a big number) in a u8, which surely overflow. Then it's converted back to bandwidth code (which is thus 0) and written to the chip. The code sometimes works because the chip will automatically fallback to the lowest possible DP link rate (1.62Gbps) when get the invalid value. However, on the eDP panel of Olimex TERES-I, which wants 2.7Gbps link, it failed. As we had already read the link bandwidth as bandwidth code in earlier code (to check whether it is supported), use it when setting bandwidth, instead of converting it to link rate and then converting back. 2020-02-26drm/bridge: Extend bridge API to disable connector creationLaurent Pinchart
Most bridge drivers create a DRM connector to model the connector at the output of the bridge. This model is historical and has worked pretty well so far, but causes several issues: - It prevents supporting more complex display pipelines where DRM connector operations are split over multiple components. For instance a pipeline with a bridge connected to the DDC signals to read EDID data, and another one connected to the HPD signal to detect connection and disconnection, will not be possible to support through this model. - It requires every bridge driver to implement similar connector handling code, resulting in code duplication. - It assumes that a bridge will either be wired to a connector or to another bridge, but doesn't support bridges that can be used in both positions very well (although there is some ad-hoc support for this in the analogix_dp bridge driver). In order to solve these issues, ownership of the connector should be moved to the display controller driver (where it can be implemented using helpers provided by the core). Extend the bridge API to allow disabling connector creation in bridge drivers as a first step towards the new model. The new flags argument to the bridge .attach() operation allows instructing the bridge driver to skip creating a connector. Unconditionally set the new flags argument to 0 for now to keep the existing behaviour, and modify all existing bridge drivers to return an error when connector creation is not requested as they don't support this feature yet. The change is based on the following semantic patch, with manual review and edits. @ rule1 @ identifier funcs; identifier fn; @@ struct drm_bridge_funcs funcs = { ..., .attach = fn }; @ depends on rule1 @ identifier rule1.fn; identifier bridge; statement S, S1; @@ int fn( struct drm_bridge *bridge + , enum drm_bridge_attach_flags flags ) { ... when != S + if (flags & DRM_BRIDGE_ATTACH_NO_CONNECTOR) { + DRM_ERROR("Fix bridge driver to make connector optional!"); + return -EINVAL; + } + S1 ... } @ depends on rule1 @ identifier rule1.fn; identifier bridge, flags; expression E1, E2, E3; @@ int fn( struct drm_bridge *bridge, enum drm_bridge_attach_flags flags ) { <... drm_bridge_attach(E1, E2, E3 + , flags ) ...> } @@ expression E1, E2, E3; @@ drm_bridge_attach(E1, E2, E3 + , 0 ) Signed-off-by: Laurent Pinchart <laurent.pinchart@ideasonboard.com> Reviewed-by: Boris Brezillon <boris.brezillon@collabora.com> Acked-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> Reviewed-by: Tomi Valkeinen <tomi.valkeinen@ti.com> Tested-by: Sebastian Reichel <sebastian.reichel@collabora.com> Reviewed-by: Sebastian Reichel <sebastian.reichel@collabora.com> Acked-by: Daniel Vetter <daniel.vetter@ffwll.ch> Signed-off-by: Tomi Valkeinen <tomi.valkeinen@ti.com> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20200226112514.12455-10-laurent.pinchart@ideasonboard.com

2019-01-24drm: Split out drm_probe_helper.hDaniel Vetter
Having the probe helper stuff (which pretty much everyone needs) in the drm_crtc_helper.h file (which atomic drivers should never need) is confusing. Split them out. To make sure I actually achieved the goal here I went through all drivers. And indeed, all atomic drivers are now free of drm_crtc_helper.h includes. v2: Make it compile. There was so much compile fail on arm drivers that I figured I'll better not include any of the acks on v1. v3: Massive rebase because i915 has lost a lot of drmP.h includes, but not all: Through drm_crtc_helper.h > drm_modeset_helper.h -> drmP.h there was still one, which this patch largely removes. Which means rolling out lots more includes all over. This will also conflict with ongoing drmP.h cleanup by others I expect. v3: Rebase on top of atomic bochs. v4: Review from Laurent for bridge/rcar/omap/shmob/core bits: - (re)move some of the added includes, use the better include files in other places (all suggested from Laurent adopted unchanged). - sort alphabetically v5: Actually try to sort them, and while at it, sort all the ones I touch. v6: Rebase onto i915 changes. v7: Rebase once more. That driver does this: - deactivate PSR - turn off a clock Both of these things (especially deactive PSR) should be done before we turn the PHY power off and turn off analog power. Let's move the callback up. Note that without this patch (and with https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/9553349/ [seanpaul: this patch was not applied, but it seems like the race can still occur]), I experienced an error in reboot testing where one thread was at: rockchip_drm_psr_deactivate rockchip_dp_powerdown analogix_dp_bridge_disable drm_bridge_disable ...and the other thread was at: analogix_dp_send_psr_spd analogix_dp_enable_psr analogix_dp_psr_set psr_flush_handler The flush handler thread was finding AUX channel errors and eventually reported "Failed to apply PSR", where I had a kgdb breakpoint. Presumably the device would have eventually given up and shut down anyway, but it seems better to fix the order to be more correct. Cc: Kristian H. 2018-04-24drm/bridge: analogix_dp: Move fast link training detect to set_bridgezain wang
It's too early to detect fast link training, if other step after it failed, we will set fast_link flag to 1, and retry set_bridge again. In this case we will power down and power up panel power supply, and we will do fast link training since we have set fast_link flag to 1. In fact, we should do full link training now, not the fast link training. So we should move the fast link detection at the end of set_bridge.
