2023-07-11x86/shstk: Add Kconfig option for shadow stackRick Edgecombe
Shadow stack provides protection for applications against function return address corruption. It is active when the processor supports it, the kernel has CONFIG_X86_SHADOW_STACK enabled, and the application is built for the feature. This is only implemented for the 64-bit kernel. When it is enabled, legacy non-shadow stack applications continue to work, but without protection. Since there is another feature that utilizes CET (Kernel IBT) that will share implementation with shadow stacks, create CONFIG_CET to signify that at least one CET feature is configured. 2023-01-20crypto: x86/aria-avx - fix build failure with old binutilsTaehee Yoo
The minimum version of binutils for kernel build is currently 2.23 and it doesn't support GFNI. So, it fails to build the aria-avx if the old binutils is used. The code using GFNI is an optional part of aria-avx. So, it disables GFNI part in it when the old binutils is used. In order to check whether the using binutils is supporting GFNI or not, AS_GFNI is added. 2020-05-07x86/delay: Introduce TPAUSE delayKyung Min Park
TPAUSE instructs the processor to enter an implementation-dependent optimized state. The instruction execution wakes up when the time-stamp counter reaches or exceeds the implicit EDX:EAX 64-bit input value. The instruction execution also wakes up due to the expiration of the operating system time-limit or by an external interrupt or exceptions such as a debug exception or a machine check exception. TPAUSE offers a choice of two lower power states: 1. Light-weight power/performance optimized state C0.1 2. Improved power/performance optimized state C0.2 This way, it can save power with low wake-up latency in comparison to spinloop based delay. The selection between the two is governed by the input register. TPAUSE is available on processors with X86_FEATURE_WAITPKG. 2020-04-09x86: add comments about the binutils version to support code in as-instrMasahiro Yamada
We raise the minimal supported binutils version from time to time. The last bump was commit 1fb12b35e5ff ("kbuild: Raise the minimum required binutils version to 2.21"). We have these as-instr tests because binutils 2.21 does not support them. When we bump the binutils version next time, this will be a good hint to find out which one can be dropped. 2020-04-09x86: probe assembler capabilities via kconfig instead of makefileJason A. Donenfeld
Doing this probing inside of the Makefiles means we have a maze of ifdefs inside the source code and child Makefiles that need to make proper decisions on this too. Instead, we do it at Kconfig time, like many other compiler and assembler options, which allows us to set up the dependencies normally for full compilation units. In the process, the ADX test changes to use %eax instead of %r10 so that it's valid in both 32-bit and 64-bit mode. Signed-off-by: Jason A.
