2022-08-31usbip: add USBIP_URB_* URB transfer flagsShuah Khan
USBIP driver packs URB transfer flags in network packets that are exchanged between Server (usbip_host) and Client (vhci_hcd). URB_* flags are internal to kernel and could change. Where as USBIP URB flags exchanged in network packets are USBIP user API must not change. Add USBIP_URB* flags to make this an explicit API and change the client and server to map them. Details as follows: Client tx path (USBIP_CMD_SUBMIT): - Maps URB_* to USBIP_URB_* when it sends USBIP_CMD_SUBMIT packet. Server rx path (USBIP_CMD_SUBMIT): - Maps USBIP_URB_* to URB_* when it receives USBIP_CMD_SUBMIT packet. Flags aren't included in USBIP_CMD_UNLINK and USBIP_RET_SUBMIT packets and no special handling is needed for them in the following cases: - Server rx path (USBIP_CMD_UNLINK) - Client rx path & Server tx path (USBIP_RET_SUBMIT) Update protocol documentation to reflect the change. 2022-07-14usb: gadget: f_mass_storage: forced_eject attributeMaxim Devaev
It allows to reset prevent_medium_removal flag and "eject" the image. This can be useful to free the drive from a hunging host or if the host continues to use the drive even after unmounting (Linux does this). It's also a bit like using an unfolded paperclip on an optical drive. Previously, the undocumented method of sending SIGUSR1 to a special "file-storage" kernel thread could be used for these purposes, but when using multiple storages there was no way to distinguish one from the other, so we had to send a signal to everyone. 2022-01-31usb: gadget: f_uac2: Optionally determine bInterval for HS and SSPavel Hofman
Allow setting configfs params p_hs_bint/c_hs_bint to 0. If they are set to 0, determine the largest bInterval (4 to 1) for which the required bandwidth of the max samplerate fits the max allowed packet size. If the required bandwidth exceeds max bandwidth for single-packet mode (ep->mc=1), keep bInterval at 1. The FS speed is left at fixed bInterval=1. If for any speed the required bandwidth exceeds the max bandwidth corresponding to the selected/determined bInterval, print a warning. 2021-06-09usb: gadget: u_audio: add real feedback implementationRuslan Bilovol
This adds interface between userspace and feedback endpoint to report real feedback frequency to the Host. Current implementation adds new userspace interface ALSA mixer control "Capture Pitch 1000000" (similar to aloop driver's "PCM Rate Shift 100000" mixer control) Value in PPM is chosen to have correction value agnostic of the actual HW rate, which the application is not necessarily dealing with, while still retaining a good enough precision to allow smooth clock correction on the playback side, if necessary. Similar to sound/usb/endpoint.c, a slow down is allowed up to 25%. This has no impact on the required bandwidth. Speedup correction has an impact on the bandwidth reserved for the isochronous endpoint. The default allowed speedup is 500ppm. This seems to be more than enough but, if necessary, this is configurable through a module parameter. The reserved bandwidth is rounded up to the next packet size. Usage of this new control is easy to implement in existing userspace tools like alsaloop from alsa-utils. 2021-06-09usb: gadget: f_uac2: add adaptive sync support for captureRuslan Bilovol
Current f_uac2 USB OUT (aka 'capture') synchronization implements 'ASYNC' scenario which means USB Gadget has it's own freerunning clock and can update Host about real clock frequency through feedback endpoint so Host can align number of samples sent to the USB gadget to prevent overruns/underruns In case if Gadget can has no it's internal clock and can consume audio samples at any rate (for example, on the Gadget side someone records audio directly to a file, or audio samples are played through an external DAC as soon as they arrive), UAC2 spec suggests 'ADAPTIVE' synchronization type. Change UAC2 driver to make it configurable through additional 'c_sync' configfs file. Default remains 'asynchronous' with possibility to switch it to 'adaptive' Signed-off-by: Ruslan Bilovol <ruslan.bilovol@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Jerome Brunet <jbrunet@baylibre.com> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20210603220104.1216001-3-jbrunet@baylibre.com Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>

2021-01-15usb: gadget: u_ether: support configuring interface names.Lorenzo Colitti
This patch allows the administrator to configure the interface name of a function using u_ether (e.g., eem, ncm, rndis). Currently, all such interfaces, regardless of function type, are always called usb0, usb1, etc. This makes it very cumbersome to use more than one such type at a time, because userspace cannnot easily tell the interfaces apart and apply the right configuration to each one. Interface renaming in userspace based on driver doesn't help, because the interfaces all have the same driver. Without this patch, doing this require hacks/workarounds such as setting fixed MAC addresses on the functions, and then renaming by MAC address, or scraping configfs after each interface is created to find out what it is. Setting the interface name is done by writing to the same "ifname" configfs attribute that reports the interface name after the function is bound. The write must contain an interface pattern such as "usb%d" (which will cause the net core to pick the next available interface name starting with "usb"). This patch does not allow writing an exact interface name (as opposed to a pattern) because if the interface already exists at bind time, the bind will fail and the whole gadget will fail to activate. This could be allowed in a future patch. For compatibility with current userspace, when reading an ifname that has not currently been set, the result is still "(unnamed net_device)". Once a write to ifname happens, then reading ifname will return whatever was last written. Tested by configuring an rndis function and an ncm function on the same gadget, and writing "rndis%d" to ifname on the rndis function and "ncm%d" to ifname on the ncm function. When the gadget was bound, the rndis interface was rndis0 and the ncm interface was ncm0. 2020-05-14usb: raw-gadget: support stalling/halting/wedging endpointsAndrey Konovalov
Raw Gadget is currently unable to stall/halt/wedge gadget endpoints, which is required for proper emulation of certain USB classes. This patch adds a few more ioctls: - USB_RAW_IOCTL_EP0_STALL allows to stall control endpoint #0 when there's a pending setup request for it. - USB_RAW_IOCTL_SET/CLEAR_HALT/WEDGE allow to set/clear halt/wedge status on non-control non-isochronous endpoints. 2020-05-14usb: raw-gadget: fix gadget endpoint selectionAndrey Konovalov
Currently automatic gadget endpoint selection based on required features doesn't work. Raw Gadget tries iterating over the list of available endpoints and finding one that has the right direction and transfer type. Unfortunately selecting arbitrary gadget endpoints (even if they satisfy feature requirements) doesn't work, as (depending on the UDC driver) they might have fixed addresses, and one also needs to provide matching endpoint addresses in the descriptors sent to the host. The composite framework deals with this by assigning endpoint addresses in usb_ep_autoconfig() before enumeration starts. This approach won't work with Raw Gadget as the endpoints are supposed to be enabled after a set_configuration/set_interface request from the host, so it's too late to patch the endpoint descriptors that had already been sent to the host. For Raw Gadget we take another approach. Similarly to GadgetFS, we allow the user to make the decision as to which gadget endpoints to use. This patch adds another Raw Gadget ioctl USB_RAW_IOCTL_EPS_INFO that exposes information about all non-control endpoints that a currently connected UDC has. This information includes endpoints addresses, as well as their capabilities and limits to allow the user to choose the most fitting gadget endpoint. The USB_RAW_IOCTL_EP_ENABLE ioctl is updated to use the proper endpoint validation routine usb_gadget_ep_match_desc(). These changes affect the portability of the gadgets that use Raw Gadget when running on different UDCs. Nevertheless, as long as the user relies on the information provided by USB_RAW_IOCTL_EPS_INFO to dynamically choose endpoint addresses, UDC-agnostic gadgets can still be written with Raw Gadget. 2020-03-15usb: gadget: add raw-gadget interfaceAndrey Konovalov
USB Raw Gadget is a kernel module that provides a userspace interface for the USB Gadget subsystem. Essentially it allows to emulate USB devices from userspace. Enabled with CONFIG_USB_RAW_GADGET. Raw Gadget is currently a strictly debugging feature and shouldn't be used in production. Raw Gadget is similar to GadgetFS, but provides a more low-level and direct access to the USB Gadget layer for the userspace. The key differences are: 1. Every USB request is passed to the userspace to get a response, while GadgetFS responds to some USB requests internally based on the provided descriptors. However note, that the UDC driver might respond to some requests on its own and never forward them to the Gadget layer. 2. GadgetFS performs some sanity checks on the provided USB descriptors, while Raw Gadget allows you to provide arbitrary data as responses to USB requests. 3. Raw Gadget provides a way to select a UDC device/driver to bind to, while GadgetFS currently binds to the first available UDC. 4. Raw Gadget uses predictable endpoint names (handles) across different UDCs (as long as UDCs have enough endpoints of each required transfer type). 5. Raw Gadget has ioctl-based interface instead of a filesystem-based one. 2019-02-22usb: core: add option of only authorizing internal devicesDmitry Torokhov
On Chrome OS we want to use USBguard to potentially limit access to USB devices based on policy. We however to do not want to wait for userspace to come up before initializing fixed USB devices to not regress our boot times. This patch adds option to instruct the kernel to only authorize devices connected to the internal ports. Previously we could either authorize all or none (or, by default, we'd only authorize wired devices). The behavior is controlled via usbcore.authorized_default command line option. 2017-12-12USB: remove the URB_NO_FSBR flagAlan Stern
The URB_NO_FSBR flag has never really been used. It was introduced as a potential way for UHCI to minimize PCI bus usage (by not attempting full-speed bulk and control transfers more than once per frame), but the flag was not set by any drivers. There's no point in keeping it around. This patch simplifies the API by removing it. Unfortunately, it does have to be kept as part of the usbfs ABI, but at least we can document in include/uapi/linux/usbdevice_fs.h that it doesn't do anything. 2017-06-19usb: gadget: add f_uac1 variant based on a new u_audio apiRuslan Bilovol
This patch adds a new function 'f_uac1' (f_uac1 with virtual "ALSA card") that uses recently created u_audio API. Comparing to legacy f_uac1 function implementation it doesn't require any real Audio codec to be present on the device. In f_uac1 audio streams are simply sinked to and sourced from a virtual ALSA sound card created using u_audio API. Legacy f_uac1 approach is to write audio samples directly to existing ALSA sound card f_uac1 approach is more generic/flexible one - create an ALSA sound card that represents USB Audio function and allows to be used by userspace application that may choose to do whatever it wants with the data received from the USB Host and choose to provide whatever it wants as audio data to the USB Host. f_uac1 also has capture support (gadget->host) thanks to easy implementation via u_audio. By default, capture interface has 48000kHz/2ch configuration, same as playback channel has. f_uac1 descriptors naming convention uses f_uac2 driver naming convention that makes it more common and meaningful. Comparing to f_uac1_legacy, the f_uac1 doesn't have volume/mute functionality. This is because the f_uac1 volume/mute feature unit was dummy implementation since that driver creation (2009) and never had any real volume control or mute functionality, so there is no any difference here. Since f_uac1 functionality, exposed interface to userspace (virtual ALSA card), input parameters are so different comparing to f_uac1_legacy, that there is no any reason to keep them in the same file/module, and separate function was created. g_audio can be built using one of existing UAC functions (f_uac1, f_uac1_legacy or f_uac2) Signed-off-by: Ruslan Bilovol <ruslan.bilovol@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Felipe Balbi <felipe.balbi@linux.intel.com>
